About Fareham

A house in Woburn, a shared kiln, and a habit of making things

I’m Amelia Barton, and Fareham Home began quietly, at home. It’s the journal of a life spent making: pottery thrown at the studio wheel, a garden that mostly cooperates, a kitchen that always smells of something, and the occasional trip that changes how all of it gets done. The wheel is mine; the kiln is shared, down at the Hutt Art Society, where I’m a member.

There’s a new entry in the journal now and then. When a firing goes well, a few pieces go into the shop.

I set out to make pottery for my own sake. The joy and the trials of being creative have always been my passion, so we don’t have large quantities. But I rather like that.

Fareham Interiorsis my interior design business. If it’s a whole room you’re thinking about, not one piece for a shelf, that’s where to find me: farehaminteriors.com

A word on the name, since people ask. It comes from Fareham House, my husband’s family home in the Wairarapa. The house was named after Fareham, near Southampton, where the family began. It’s a long way for a word to travel. I like that it ended up over my studio door.
